ACETO, DON --- Collectible folk, animation influenced, and whimsical humor style fine art painter, Don Aceto. An example of his work includes a humorous piece of a little plane holding a tube that reads "Titanic" and crashing through a lighthouse and knocking the top off. There is a sign in the landscape that reads "this famous old lighthouse has survived over 36 tidal waves and 108 school tours". His early works often had bright yellow and orange hues heavily influenced by animation art. Signed his works "Aceto".

ADKINS, MARIE A. (1909-1991) --- Painted small California landscape with Eucalyptus trees. Marie Adkins was active in the early part of the 20th Century in San Diego. Associated with San Diego painter Carolus Verhaeren (Verhaeren died from suicide in 1956).

AKINS, HAL (b1924) --- Laguna Beach California mid 20th Century watercolorist. Taught art for many years in Laguna Beach. Board Member of the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and showed works for many years at the Sawdust Festival. Member of the National Watercolor Society. Works were modernist and experimented with shapes and color in his landscape work.

ANDERSON, TOBY --- Painting known to exist is titled, "Storm Clouds". Early Hollywood, California artist.

BANKS, EULALIE (1895-1999) --- Signed her works "Eulalie". Painted country scene landscape with house and girl returning home, church landscape scenes, nostalgic views of the neighborhood, California landscape - historical places. Eulalie Banks was mostly known for her illustration work for children's books (1940s). She was known to have illustrated over fifty books for children and painted fine art in her leisure. She also painted Mother Goose murals for movie stars such as Charlie Chapman and Harold Lloyd. Listed: British Industries Fair (1948), Hughes - Artists In California 1786-1940.

BASKIN --- Painted a desert scene of Palm Springs, California. Impressionist with a realist leaning.

BATES, MOLLY --- Desert impressionist painter. Molly M. Bates painted scenes of the Palm Springs desert area in the mid to later part of the 20th Century. One of her paintings is titled, "Prince's Plume". Signed her work, "M. Bates".

BEARDSLEY, LOUISE --- Known work is a floral still life. Possibly Louise Beardsley Ingram from Salinas, California (important family that was from the Carmel / Monterey area and with family connections to the Hollywood film with Lucille Ball, "Your, Mine, and Ours") Signed work, "Louise Beardsley". California floral still life painter.

BERAN, LENORE --- Studied at the Art League of Los Angeles. Known to have studied under Hal Reed and Ron Labyorteaux. She was the past President of the Burbank Art Association. Active in North Hollywood from her past gallery located at 6026 Laurel Canyon (North Hollywood, Calif.). Lenore Beran sold her work from her gallery and became well known in the mid to later part of the 20th Century. Listed in various art reference materials such as Samuels, Burbank Art Association, San Fernando Valley Art Club. Signed her work "Lenore Beran". Many of her works also contain the artist address label and studio/gallery card.

BERG, CHET --- Active in El Cajon, California and had a art gallery studio in Balboa Park (San Diego). Active as an artist in the Spanish Village area of San Diego. His work includes California missions, landscape, and plein air desert landscapes. Many of his works are desert paintings, one titled verso, "Sand Dunes at Indian Wells - Flowers are Verbena, Gold Cups, and Primrose - C.E. Berg, El Cajon, Calif." Signed many of his works "Berg". Additionally Listed in: Palm Springs Desert Art Center, La Jolla Art Association, San Diego Art Institute (Balboa Park).

BEYMER --- Likely a California painter. Active in the 1940s. One of the works is of a snowy mountain landscape done in a tonalist softly painted impressionist style. Signed "Beymer 1943".

BLANNIN, FREDERICK B. (1871-1941) --- Early Riverside (Inland Empire) California artist. Fred Blannin was born in Manchester, England on October 13th, 1871. He moved to Manitoba, Canada in 1886 and was known to have painted in Winnepeg for several years. In 1897, he arrived in Los Angeles. He was known to have settled in the Riverside area in 1900. Blannin worked for Joe W. Cornwell as a commercial artist and bought his art business in 1919. Exhibited: Riverside Fair (Award Winning Artist). Listed: History of San Bernadino and Riverside County by John Brown and James Boyd (1922, San Bernardino), Riverside Fair Exhibitor. Signed his work, "Fred Blannin".

BLESSNER, ANN  --- Plein air impressionist painter. Known work includes a framer label by Duncan and Vail (San Francisco, Los Angeles). Likely an early Los Angeles based artist. Painted a California impressionist landscape.

BONN, FRED --- Active in Manhattan Beach California in the mid to late 20th Century. Fred Bonn is known for his whimsical paintings in brightly colored orange and yellow backgrounds often of train scenes, country rural scenes, cars, and World War 2 planes incorporated into whimsical illustrative landscape scenes. A strong attention to illustration, drawing, and animation art can be seen in his original works. Orange was a common background color in his early paintings - Most of his early works have original labels that show he lived and was active in Manhattan Beach.

BOOTH, ELTA E. --- Painted a small early California watercolor titled, "Tree At Carmel".

BOSMAN, BERNARD --- Mid 20th Century California modernist. Member of the California Watercolor Society and Calif. Society of Painters and Sculptors. His works were painted with loose brushwork often with elements of bright colors and modernist feel.

BRAGG, CHARLES --- Mid-Century California modernist, surreal painter, illustrator, sculptor and etcher. Highly acclaimed for his humorous portraits and social satire subject matter in oil and etchings. Bragg was interested in portraying human behavior often including his sense of humor and satire into his paintings. Bragg was interested in people and often enjoyed making political and social comments within his work. Listed in several other art reference sources such as: The New Humanism, Allentown Art Museum, Western American Price Index, NY Times 5/31/02 p.38. Works held in the San Diego Museum of Art, Georgia and Oklahoma City Museum, USC Fisher Gallery (Los Angeles).

BRAICO, LEO --- mid 20th Century modernist. Married to Lilliana Braico who was also an artist and studied with John and Patricia Cunningham from Carmel. Signed work "Braico". Work has an emphasis on line and the black line style in particular - could be described as similar to the style of Patricia Cunningham.

BRAINERD, DOROTHY --- Active in Oregon and California. Painted impressionist desert paintings and landscape. Active from her studio around 1970 in Ashland, Oregon and also in Medford as well. Signed lower right, "Brainerd". Artist label verso from Medford, Oregon. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center. BROWN, LOUISE D. --- Desert painter. Painted a desert impressionist oil painting, titled "Desert Verbena". Also painted the Alvarez Adobe in Capistrano. Louise Brown also painted impressionist landscapes and seascape. Active in Laguna Beach, California (1945).

BUNTING, THELMA --- Painted a California impressionist landscape - mid 20th Century. A talented plein air painter.

BUTLIN, EARL --- Painted a small California mission painting. Signed work "Earl Butlin". Colorful impressionist style.

CARDIN, THELMA --- Member of the California Art Club in 1964. Painted an impressionist plein air landscape.

CARTON, VESTA --- Mid-Century modernist. One of her works was accepted into a Long Beach Art Association Juried Show (1966). Signed works "Carton". In the mid to late 60s she was based in Long Beach. Painting known to exist has an exhibition label that reads, "Friends of The Long Beach Museum of Art - Art Rental Gallery". Expressionist - oil monoprint artist.

CAVALLERO, JOHN --- A recent impressionist piece located is of the old Carmel mission. Titled on the back of the painting, "The Old Carmel Mission by John Cavallero". Only thing else known about this artist is that he was active in the 1930s in the Monterey area.

CHALMERS, BURL --- Born March 25, 1910 in Huntington, Indiana. In the 1930s, Burl Chalmers worked for the Huntington Theater and was featured in the Huntington Herald in the early 1950s. Moved to San Diego after 1959 and worked with Foster and Kleiser (billboard advertising company). While with Foster and Kleiser he received acclaim for his artwork with the San Diego Zoo. Painted seascapes, desert, Navajo subject, trains, and highly detailed Western paintings. Died in San Diego on July 16,2003 at 93. CHAPMAN, GUY L. --- Painted impressionist California landscapes, seascape and desert oil paintings. Active in the mid 20th Century.

CHASE, RICHARD GABRIEL (1919-2007) --- Muralist and painter. Born in Massachusetts and moved to California after World War 2. Chase was an illustrator and professional artist in the San Diego area. His works have been featured in the publications of the San Diego Historical Society. He was active in art for almost all of his life. Known in San Diego for his large canvas paintings and mural pieces in his later years (painted mural at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego 1992). Known to have painted landscape, birds, still life, coastal views, and Catalina view paintings. Painted in oil and watercolor.

CHEYNO, Y. ELBERT --- Cheyno was a painter and sculptor of Indian and cowboy subject matter. He also painted Western landscapes and California scenes. Cheyno worked in the aircraft industry with Lockheed and American Airlines. In the 1970s, he became active as a professional painter and founded the AICA (American Indian and Cowboy Artists (1974)).

COGSWELL, BENJAMIN (1877-1950) --- Benjamin Cogswell Jr. painted in a colorist tonalist style. Originally from New York and eventually settled in Hermosa Beach, California. According to art historian Edan Hughes, Cogswell was originally from Amityville, Long Island and moved to California in the early part of the 20th Century and became active in Hermosa Beach. Cogswell painted California impressionist landscapes in oil and watercolor - he was interested in color; many of his paintings have an almost fauvist tonalist style. His watercolors were more traditional early California plein air style. Works include: tonal landscape, California tonalist sunset scenes, coastal scenes, seascape watercolors. Signed many of his works, "B.F. Cogswell".

COOPER, JEWEL --- Impressionist desert painter in the early 1960s to late 1970s period. Resident of Sun City, California. Also painted landscapes and California scenes. Signed work, "Jewel Cooper". Some paintings have the artist label verso which reads, Jewel's Art Gallery, 26830 Cherry Hills, Sun City, Calif. Active in the 1960s with the Palm Springs Desert Art Center. Resident of Sun City, California. Painted impressionist landscapes and California desert scenes. Member of The Desert Art Center, Palm Springs. Signed works, "Jewel Cooper".

COULTRUP, JOHN --- Painted 100s of impressionist landscape paintings in the early part of the 20th Century. An interesting fact about Coultrup according to a family member is that he was very tall..."I remember when I was about 7 (1967) our family got together for an event. I remember him coming in the front door, and when he would enter rooms he had to duck. I was told he was about 7 feet tall." Another interesting fact about Coultrup is that he was known to have been a chiropractor. Active in the 1930s in Long Beach, California. Signed many of his works, "Coultup" or "J.A. Coultrup". Could be described as a speed technique or colorist painter. He was born in Kansas in 1888 and passed away in California in 1982.

CRAIG, STELLA --- Painted a Yucca Tree landscape in the early part of the 20th Century. Very bright and crisp color and signed the work "Stella Craig".

CRANFORD, C.F. --- Large impressionist painting of a California mission. Active in the early part of the 20th Century, signed work "C.F. CRANFORD".

CUNNINGHAM, PATRICIA (1907-1984) -- Mid Century California modernist. Patricia Cunningham was born in California but studied early in her life with Hans Hofmann in Munich, Germany and Andre L'Hote in Paris. By the 1930s she settled in Carmel and became the first woman president of the Carmel Art Association. Her works often had attention to line, the use of a black line for the landscape image, abstraction and expressionist feel.

DAVIS, J.K. --- Lived in Pasadena, California. Active around 1920. Works could be described as similar to John Coultrup or John Englehart.

DAVIS, VERA --- Painted a landscape of the desert and palm trees - the work known appears to be of Palm Springs, California. Talented painter. Active in the mid to late 20th Century.

DHUE, RODERICK --- Talented plein air painter. Painted a small coastal scene - appeared to be Carmel area coastal landscape. Strong attention to lighting and loose plein air brushwork. A talented artist.

ELGIN -- Painted an impressionist Northern California forest interior scene with cabin. Signed work "Elgin '44". Painting located had a Flax's Frame Shop framer label verso.

ESTES, MARJORIE --- Active in San Diego, California. A recent painting located was a small California impressionist coastal. Artist label on the back of the painting. Mid 20th Century artist.

FELTS, LUCE --- Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1970). Active in Palm Springs, California. Felts was also known to have been an art teacher in the area as well. Known to have painted smoke tree and desert landscapes of the area. Most of her work was from the Palm Springs period and scenes of the desert. She later moved to Seattle and has a home studio there.

FETTER, NEWELL --- Contemporary mid-century artist. California modernist. Abstract expressionist period. Los Gatos, California Studio card verso. Listed in Bay Area Visual Artists and Architects Index. Signed his work "Newell". Believed to have been born in 1923, and to have lived in Texas at one time in addition to several locations in California, both Northern and Southern.

FIELDS, EVALYN --- Hemet, California artist. Painted a desert landscape scene in Hemet, California in 1966.

FLORANETTE --- Painted California impressionist landscapes. Signed works "Floranette".

FOOSE, A. --- Signed works "A. Foose". Full name of artist, Adrian Foose. Plein air desert and California landscape painter. Possibly most active in Los Angeles. Works could be described as similar to or influenced by Sam Hyde Harris.

FORD, SILVIA --- Painted the Salina's Southern California railroad station in watercolor (dated 1947). One of the paintings located was titled "Salina's SP Ste" on back side.

FOSTER, DON --- Mid-Century impressionist. Born in Canada. Art teacher and collectible California impressionist. Signs, "Don Foster". Don Foster was widely exhibited in California. He was a veteran member of the famed Palm Springs Desert Art Center with a significant web presence. Don Foster organized and taught annual outdoor classes in Grand Teton and Yosemite National Parks, the Canadian Rockies, and along the coasts of California, Oregon, and Hawaii. Often, the workshops offered optional instruction by oil painter Darwin Duncan or watercolorist Robert Landry.

FRENCH, CLARA --- Painted a small desert impressionist landscape. Signed her work "Clara French". California desert and landscape painter.

GARCIA, DANNY --- Mid Century California modernist. Active in Carmel. Painted minimalist colorful landscapes in his unique semi abstract style. Well known in the Monterey / Carmel local gallery scene, Danny Garcia has had a gallery on Ocean Ave. in Carmel for many years. Many of his works featured vividly colored Monterey tree landscapes with a coastal background.

GERMAIN, FRANK --- Mid-Century modernist painter and watercolorist. Known primarily as a watercolorist. Frank Germain's work was featured in a book by Walter Foster Publications. "The Art of Watercolor: with Frank Germain..." and also "Seascapes by Frank Germain". A recent oil painting of his work was found of an old car / buggy with driver and passengers in a modernist street landscape. Signed his work, "Germain" or "Frank Germain". Additionally Listed in: Walter Foster Publications, The Art of Watercolor.

GILDERSLEEVE --- Active in Rancho Mirage, California in the mid 1950s. Used P.O. Box 81, Rancho Mirage, CA. Plein air desert painter. Likely a different artist than Santa Cruz painter, Beatrice Gildersleeve who passed away in 1933.

GRAHAM, WALLACE --- Known to have worked in the Art Department for Woody Allen's film "All You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex..". Wallace was a designer for Gillian's Island and was known to have worked on the art backgrounds and set design. He was also active with MGM Studios and worked on Michael Landon's "Highway to Heaven" in the Art Department as the construction foreman. He painted fine art in his leisure. One of his paintings known is a landscape of a snowy winter landscape which appears to be a Western scene. Signed his works, "W. Graham".

GRAM, ANN BENEDICT --- Mid 20th Century artist. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center. Painted impressionist plein air desert paintings and still life. Known to have lived off Tahquitz in Palm Springs, California. Member of the San Fernando and Glendale Art Association.

GRINGLES --- Painted a desert landscape titled “Desert Palms” and signed work “Gringles.” Also noted on the stretcher bar reads “Gringles Studios, 3222 Bellvue Avenue, Los Angeles 22, Calif. Dunkirk 2-7576.”

GRISE, HENDRIK --- Mid Century California modernist painter. Born 1914-1982. Painted expressionist works of nudes and abstract. Known to have exhibited black and white drawings at Chaffey College in 1964. Known to have exhibited in the early 80s at the Chaffey Community Art Association’s Museum of History and Art. Signed his work "Grise". Seems to have been most active circa 1960s and 70s. Died in 1982.

GROVE, KEN --- Painted landscape and coastal scenes in the Santa Cruz area. Known to have been a lumberman and free spirit who painted in his spare time. Some of his works were signed with initials. Also painted in watercolor.

GUSTAFSON, M. --- Painted impressionist desert landscape scenes. Works were brightly colored and appear to be mostly of the Palm Springs and surrounding desert. Mid 20th Century.

HAGER, BILL --- Born in Illinois. Painter and teacher. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1965, 1970-1975). Hager was also a member of the Pallette Club of Palm Desert. Married to Bell Hager. Painted plein air impressionist desert paintings of the Palm Springs area.

HAGER, CLARENCE --- Painted an impressionist desert scene in 1941.

HALL, DONALD HAVEN --- Painted a series of urban street scene paintings. Late 20th Century period. Signed work, "Donald Haven Hall". California mid century modernist.

HALL, JERVIS LEIGHTON --- Mid century watercolorist. Works shown at the Arcadia Public Library (1962,1963). One of the artist's watercolor examples is titled, "Lamanda Landscape". Signed works "Jervis Leighton Hall".

HALL, MARY FOULDS (1865-1945) --- Carmel Valley plein air painter. Member of the Carmel Art Association.

HAMLIN, LLOYD --- Lived in San Diego according to address label on back of painting (late 20th Century). Painted an impressionist coastal oil painting of La Jolla (La Jolla Cove) with colorful loose brushwork. Label verso reads, "Lloyd Hamlin, 4654 Fargo, San Diego Cal. 92117".

HAND, GEORGE A. --- Painted a plein air watercolor sketch of Joshua Tree, Antelope Valley - California in 1931.

HARGISS, BILL --- H.W. Bill Hargiss. Legendary Coach called "Bald Eagle". Painted a plein air painting of Palm Springs, California. The back states that the painting was done in early Spring of 1970 - San Dunes and Desert Verbenia (Near Bermuda Dunes Golf Course) - Palm Springs, California. Signed his work "H.W. Bill Hargiss". Painted in his leisure.

HARSTON, DELL --- New information on the artist suggests that the artist may have lived in Yucaipa, California at one time. A recent painting located was signed "Dell Horner" and marked Yucaipa, California on the stretcher. Myrtle Dell Horner Harston was born Myrtle Dell Haines in Kansas on August 11, 1884. Early in life she appears to have lived in Texas and later California. In Texas she lived in a boarding house and had the name Myrtle Dell Horner. Before 1930, she appears to have signed works "Dell Horner". In 1930 she married William Garfield Harston which leads to later works signed with her married name "Dell Harston". Dell Harston passed away on July 9, 1956.

HARWOOD, HARVEY --- Painted a colorful impressionist desert painting. Mid 20th Century. Signed work, "Harvey Harwood".

HENDRIX, C. --- According to label verso this artist was a resident of Nevada. Painted desert and California landscape scenes. The label verso also mentions that the artist "has received many prizes..some of his paintings under a different name are hanging in many California art galleries". Works could be described as similar to that of Herbert Sartelle.

HERBST, IRVIN J. --- Painting known to exist is a Sierra landscape scene. Similar to the realist impressionist work of Edwin Forker and also a bit like Joseph John Englehart. Signed his work, "I. J. Herbst 1929". According to art historian Edan Hughes, Herbst was known to have been active in the Los Angeles area as a painter and interior decorator.

HICKEY, ELLA --- California painter - early part of the 20th Century. Painted a plein air impressionist landscape - loose colorful impressionist brush work.

HILL, EDDY W__  --- Painted in Carmel around 1940. Painted a small impressionist landcscape of 17-Mile Drive - Cypress tree landscape.

HOCKENBERRY, R.J. --- Bob Hockenberry is a Palm Springs based artist. Painter of animals and Palm Springs desert scenes and landmarks. Signed his work "Hockenberry" and "R.J. Hockenberry". Known to have painted various Palm Springs landmarks (Windham and La Quinta Hotels). Bob Hockenberry was also known to have painted backgrounds for Disney Studios and later settled in the desert area to paint and create sculpture in fiberglass. He also had a studio gallery in Palm Springs.

HOLLAND, MILDRED (b1905) --- Active with the California Watercolor Society in the early 1930s. A recent watercolor located is of several palm trees in a desert landscape.

HOLSINGER, ROBERT --- Painted an impressionist work of Monterey Pines. Appears to have been a Monterey, California artist circa 1925. Signed work RGH.

HOORI, F. --- Painted a Carmel impressionist landscape. Japanese artist. Japanese signature verso - signed front of work, "F. Hoori". Mid 20th Century.

HOPE, WYMAN --- Painted an impressionist High Sierra mountain landscape painting. Talented plein air painter.

HOWELL, FRANKIE --- Painted an impressionist coastal view titled Pacific Grove (Monterey, California). Signed work "F. Howell".

IRVINE, CLARA LOOMIS (1894-1985) --- According to art historian Edan Hughes, At the turn of the century she was known to have lived in Oakland in 1910 and later moved to Modesto around 1916. She was married to John W. Irvine. Clara Irvine painted landscape scenes of California and mission paintings.

IRWIN --- Active in the 1970s. California modernist - mid 20th Century artist. Active from studio address 2179 Grandeur Dr., San Pedro CA according to address labels found on the back of works. Many examples were in very bright colors - modernist harbor paintings with buildings in the distance. Studied in Los Angeles and signed works "Irwin".

JENNINGS, O.W. --- O.W. Jennings Jr. Painted a plein air impressionist desert landscape of Palm Springs.

JOHNSON, CLARICE L. --- Painted a desert impressionist oil painting. Active from Cerritos, California mid 20th Century. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1975).

JOHNSON, GLADYS --- Full artist name is Gladys L. Johnson. Painting known to exist is titled, "Desert Serenity" - painted in 1964. Talented plein air painter of the desert - mid 1960s California desert painter. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center.

JOHNSON, ROBERT J. --- Painted a California impressionist oil painting. Plein air artist.

KAZOR, LEONARD --- Leonard Kazor was a mid-century modernist painter in the Pasadena, California area. He was born in 1917 and passed away in Pasadena in 2000. Known to have painted modernist abstracts, figural, nudes, and expressionist cityscape pieces. He seemed to prefer to date his works and often mentioned the actual day the expression was executed. Kazor also often stated the location or a small memo about the piece on the back of his works. Many of his works ended up at a Long Beach California flea market a few years after he passed away and were sold out of a huge truckload...there were hundreds of his works in this one sale alone. Signed many of his work "L. Kazor". 

KELLER, G.A. --- Painted a desert plein air landscape circa 1930s. Signed work, "G.A. Keller".

KILLIAN, Edwin W. --- Created a mosaic abalone sculpture painting from his studio in Imperial Beach, California. Appears to have been active in the 1960s period. A talented artist. Known work is titled, "Two Fish".

KING, DOROTHEA --- Painted impressionist California landscapes. Active in the early to mid 20th Century.

KLEIN, J. PERCY --- Active in the 1920s. Exhibited in 1926 at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona. Lived in Los Angeles in the late 1920s. Associated with the Otis Art Institute - mentioned on back of painting that it be returned to the Otis Art Institute after fair closing.

LAMBERTSON, E.R. --- Painted a desert landscape from Thunder Bird Ranch in Palm Springs (1957). Back of painting reads "March 1st 1957 / Peggy's and Randy's "Picture Window" Thunderbird Ranch, Palm Springs / Thanks for all, E.R.L."

LaPORTE, WILLIAM RALPH --- Impressionist oil painter. Lived in Palos Verdes Estates and was active as a teacher, author, and educator in the 1920s and 30s. Appears to have painted impressionist scenes in his leisure. Signed his work, "W. R. LaPorte". Known painting is titled, "Deserted Wharf by Wm Ralph LaPorte (Palos Verdes Estates)". Active circa 1935.

LEE, PARKER --- Mid 20th Century modernist. Parker Lee Leibsohn was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he later lived in Colorado Springs, Oklahoma City, and then in 1957 moved to California. In the late 1950s he became active in Los Angeles and began to work with Martin Lowitz who helped to make Lee's work popular with Hollywood celebrities. Known for impressionist abstract style, his work was sold and featured at the Martin Lowitz gallery in Beverly Hills, California. In 1968, Lee exhibited his work at the Palacio de Cortes in Cuernavaca (Mexico). Known for his unique semi-abstract style and mid 20th Century abstract cityscapes.

LETTON, MARION (1894-1975) --- Signed works, "M. LETTON". Active in California in the late 40s and 1950s. Her work has a loose quick impressionist style but focused more on color. Many of her paintings had an artist label on the back that read "Genuine oil painting by Marion Letton, well known artist..." Her works include mountain landscape and Sierra scenes.

LOUGH, JOHN HOWARD (1902-1994) --- Active in San Diego, California. His artist label on the back of some works reads "Paintings from the studio of John Howard Lough". Painted landscape and impressionist desert scenes.

LUPETTI, ROBERTO --- Important mid-Century Carmel California realist. Born in Milan, Italy. Studied at the Royal Academy in Rome, Italy. After the end of second world war, he moved to San Francisco and taught art and eventually settled in Carmel in the mid 1970s. He painted several Rabbi portraits, female nudes, portraits of pretty young women, classical architecture, and still life. He also had a studio on Ocean Ave. in Carmel, California (Roberto Lupetti Fine Art Studio). Signed his work "Roberto Lupetti". Could be considered one of the foremost 20th Century realist painters in California.

MALOUF, VICCI --- Active in Palm Springs, California (late 1960s and early 70s). Exhibited: Edward-Dean Museum (1969). Listed: Palm Springs Life (Nov.1969,Dec. 1970). Signs with full name.

MALLON, TOM -- Painted a realist aerial view Carmel coastal painting. Talented artist - active in the Carmel area?. Professional artist stamp verso. "All Rights Reserved #394 Coastal Serentity"

MATTSON, GEORGE --- Watercolorist. Painted a scene of working men taking shelter from the sun after a hard days work (dated 1938 - Figures taking break in railroad yard). Signed work George Mattson.

MAXWELL, WILLIAM --- Painted a landscape in oil in 1925 when he was a resident of Riverside, California. This single known work was signed "Wm Maxwell, Riverside, Cal. 1925".

MCLAUGHLIN, JAMES MOORE (1909-1982) --- Painted a small pastel of La Jolla, California. Signed work "McL". Painted around the 1940s period and is listed in Who Was Who In American Art.

MCDONALD, O --- Miniature - small works oil painter. Olline McDonald was a Palm Springs Desert Art Center artist known to have been active from Calimesa, California and also had a studio in Bard, California (Imperial County). Several works are stamped verso, "McDonald Studios, Bard - Calif.". Signed paintings "O. McDonald". Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center Artists (1965, 1975).

MEAD, MARGARET --- Painted a plein air desert scene in the mid 1950s.

MEDLAR, HARRY H. --- Painted an impressionist California mission painting. Not much is known about this artist - the work is stamped verso which indicates that the artist was from Monterey Park. Harry Harry Medlar was also known to have attended Mark Kepple High School in Monterey Park (1937-1941). Painted a work similar to a small mission painting by Benjamin C. Brown.

MELLINGER --- California folk artist - painted a series of hand painted dog portraits. Also painted in watercolor. Appears to have lived in the Inland Empire / Redlands, California area. Mid 20th Century artist.

MERRILL, ADA B. --- In the late 1940s Ada Merrill painted a coastal and flowering dunes impressionist landscape miniature. Found work was signed "Ada B. Merrill 1948". Appears to have been interested in painting mostly small works.

METZGER, LARUE --- Painted an impressionist and abstract colorful landscape. Painting located was semi abstract style in style with trees. Artist card on the back of the work. Appears to have been active in the mid 20th Century and likely lived in the Hawthorne, California area.

MILLER, DELPHA S. --- Painter. Delpha S. Miller taught art at La Sierra University in Riverside, California in the late 1930s and 40s. According to former student Elmer Fischer from Redlands, California, "He credits Delpha S. Miller, a former art teacher at La Sierra University, for his inspiration. In 1940 Fischer was too poor to enroll in the school, but she helped him anyway." Delpha Miller was also an illustrator, she illustrated the book "My Word Book by Katherine B. Hale, Pacific Press Publications Jan.1931 - Illustrated by Delpha S. Miller".

MOORE, DEWEY --- Hand colored photography. Desert photographer in California in the early part of the 20th Century.

MORGAN --- Early Long Beach, California artist. Works could be described as similar to John Coultrup. Morgan had a studio at 145 Pike Street in Long Beach, Calif.

MULL, NORMAN --- Western impressionist cowboy artist - mid-20th Century. One of his found works is signed "Norm W. Mull" from "Independence, Calif." (in the heart of Owen Valley, CA). Norman Mull was active in the Owen Valley area and worked at Rancho Samataguma. He is a real cowboy and participated in the Monache Rodeo. Modernist Western impressionist style with thick brushwork and bright colors. The subject of the work known is of a cowboy leading a "Pack Train". Circa 1960s to 1970s era.

MUNROE, JOHN B. (b1900) --- Born in Nebraska in 1900 and settled in Chicago in the early 1920s. He worked as a printer and studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and Chicago Art Institute. Studied with Frederic Mizen and Harold Von Schmidt. After 1957, he became active in California and worked in the art department for Douglas Aircraft. He painted in his leisure and appears to have mostly painted in watercolor. Signed most of his work "John B. Munroe".

MURRAY, MADLYNE --- Desert painter. Listed member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center, ListedArtist.com Art Reference - Rediscovered California Artists. Madlyne Murray was known to have studied with Albert J. Jarvis, Margaret Baker, William Lester, and Marjorie Cummings. Active in the mid 20th Century. Lived in 29 Palms and specialized in painting scenes of the desert. Signed works, "Madlyne Murray".

NG, K.F. --- K F Ng (Kee Fung Ng) painted in San Francisco, Calif. and had a gallery space at one time in the city. Some of his stretcher bars are stamped "Kee Fung Ng Gallery, 765 Clay St. near Grant, San Francisco, Calif. 94108, Store - 434-0160, (along with his phone numbers)". He specialized in paintings of the Bay area and worked in a modernist impressionist semi-abstract style. Works known: Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco scenes, California seascapes. Mid-Century California modernist Chinese painter.

NORTON, LELA N. --- In the early part of the 20th Century, Lela Norton had an art studio in Santa Ana, California. She painted a small impressionist plein air California landscape with flowers. Early Orange County artist. Died in 1946.

NYE, ARTHUR (MRS.) --- Tonalist painter. Early Los Angeles artist. Label on painting reads, "Mrs. Arthur Nye - 2297 W. 23 Street, Los Angeles 18, Calif.

OBERSTEIN, CHUCK (1935-2002) --- Known for his collectible clown paintings and realist portrait work. Chuck Oberstein was known to also have painted Mexican guitar players, abstract scenes of ballet dancers, and rural California landscapes - including rustic barns. Many of his clown subjects can be found in the form of prints. Oberstein's work can be compared to that of William Persona - another collectible clown painter from Southern California in the mid to late 20th Century. Some of Chuck Oberstein's work could also be described as modernist or bordering on abstract.

O'NEILL, FRANK ELISHA (b1893) --- Frank O'Neill was originally from Virginia and was born there in 1893. Frank O'Neill settled in Los Angeles and worked as an engineer for an oil refinery company. He was active in the 1940s in the Carmel / Monterey area as a painter. The work known is of a Carmel coastal view landscape with trees. He was also a member of the Carmel Art Association.

PARKER, DONALD --- Painted an impressionist flowering mountain landscape. Signed his work "Donald Parker". Mid 20th Century.

PARKER, F.N. --- Mid-Century California realist. According to the artist Grandson, Parker worked for the Velvetone Poster Company for 25 years as a color scheme artist. Known works include landscapes and a painting of Busch Gardens in Van Nuys, California. A talented painter - most of his works are held by the family.

PARKHURST, VIOLET --- Mid-Century California realist. Studied the arts at the Los Angeles State College and in Mexico City. Some of her early work includes paintings of native people, fruit markets and native life (at this time she rented a home in Natal, Brazil and was also a writer). In her early period, she also was known to have painted abstract subject matter such as nudes and cats. Parkhurst was also interested in horses - this is a fine example that shows this influence and from her early semi-abstract period. She later became well known for her realist seascape painting and California coastal pieces - her work was published with the Walter Foster art series and in a published 1972 book entitled, 'Parkhurst on Seascapes".

PASKO, NICK --- Mid-Century realist. Appears to have been active in the Western part of the United States in the late 20th Century. Known works include oil paintings of seascape, landscape, Western subject matter - Grand Canyon. Pasko also painted a series of desert paintings. Possibly Native American - as suggested by the Thunderbird located between his first and last name. He often signed his work "Nick Pasko" or "Nick --Thunderbird symbol-- Pasko". His works could be described as realist with elements of impressionism and California plein air. A talented artist.

PENNWALTER --- Signed his work Pennwalter. Plein air impressionist landscape painter. Appears to have been active in the the early 1950s. Work known has emphasis on soft lighting and a light impressionist palette.

PERKINS, RALPH R. --- Painted landscapes in the early part of the 20th Century. Active in the Los Angeles area. Lived at 8331 S. Hoover Street in Los Angeles during the 1930s.

PERSONA, WILLIAM (1903-1996) --- Known for his Mid-Century approach to clown painting. Many of his works featured emotional clowns looking at the Wall Street Journal newspaper. Persona painted portraits of native people and a few desert landscapes as well. Early in his career he painted Mexican portraits while living in Mexico and teaching art. He was known to have a gallery space located in Laguna Beach, California according to his artist labels located on the back of many of his paintings. While living in Laguna Beach, Persona was also a member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1965). He lived the last part of his life in Hawaii and passed away in 1996.

PORTER, MILLBURN --- Millburn Porter lived near Riverside, California and had a studio out of her ranch style home. She was known to have been an art teacher and had a Monday painting class from her studio in the late 1960s. Millburn Porter adapted her name to sound male in order to compete with the painters of that time. One of her former students stated that "she changed her name to that of a man so her paintings would be considered seriously". A talented artist, Millburn Porter painted California landscape, desert paintings, and floral subject matter.

POTTS. EVA KING (1890-1957) --- Eva May King Potts was born and lived the first part of her life in Detroit, Michigan. She lived in Colorado in the 1920s and eventually settled in the the 1930s in Los Angeles, California. During this period she was known to have painted the Palm Springs landscape and small smoke tree paintings. She appears to have had an interest in the medium of watercolor. Eva Potts died in 1957 in Los Angeles. One of our recent finds by this artist was a smoke tree Palm Springs miniature. Biographical information from art historian Edan Hughes and Census records.

PRATT, YVONNE --- Painted an impressionist desert oil painting of Anza Borrego. Mid 20th Century artist.

PURRUCKER, W.J. --- William Julius Purrucker. Signed works "W.J. Purrucker". Painted colorful desert and coastal impressionist landscape. According to art historian Edan Hughes, William Purrucker was born in Texas on July 1, 1887 and settled in Los Angeles with his parents in 1890. After he married he settled in the Newhall area and was active as a farmer for several years. Purrucker was active as an artist from the city of Glendale and was known to be a cabinet maker and painter from around 1930 until his death on April 3, 1954. A recent painting found by this artist was of a desert scene - also known to exist is a coastal landscape.

RAMAGE, ELIZABETH --- Plein air desert painter. Painted a desert landscape of the Palm Springs area with Yucca trees.

RANDALL, FRANK --- Painted in the late 1930s. A painting by Frank Randall in 1937 reads, "The Land That Heals The Heartaches" - on back of masonite. Work could be described as similar to John Joseph Englehart.

RASH, FREDERICK M. --- Watercolorist and oil painter. Exhibited with the California Art Club ("California Fisherman" - exhibited in 1955 - 46th Annual CAA Exhibition). Known to have studied with and painted with Robert Wood, Millard Sheets, Milford Zornes, Rex Brandt, and Dong Kingman. Active from his studio in Laguna Beach, California. One of his works had an artist card with the following information "Fred and Louise Rash, 31014 Coast Hwy. South Laguna CA 92677. Rash Gallery - oil paintings - L'scapes, S'life, Seascapes, portraits." Signed his work, "Frederick Rash", "Fred Rash", and also "Frederick M. Rash Sr.". Works were impressionist with emphasis on color and modernism.

REID, EULALIE --- Active with the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs (1970). Lived in Morongo Valley at that time. Listed: Desert Art Center Artists, ListedArtist.com Fine Art Reference - Rediscovered California Artists. Artist label verso reads, Eulalie C. Reid 1968. Signed lower right, "Eulalie Reid".

REINEMAN, KURT E. --- Kurt Reineman was known to have been active in Hemet, California. Desert landscape painter. Painted minimal color focused desert landscapes in the mid 1940s. One of his paintings reads, "Cathedral City, Calif." on the back of the painting. He often marked his personal catalogue number for the painting on the back.

RILEY, A. BLAINE --- California artist who lived at 3575 Fletcher Dr. in Los Angeles in the 1960s and possibly later. A modernist oil of fishermen mending their nets at San Pedro is known to exist.

ROBERTS, ANNETTE --- Mid 20th Century artist. Annette Roberts was known to have had a gallery in the Redlands / Mentone area according to the gallery label verso. She lived for many years in the city of Yucaipa and with her artist husband Gordon Roberts. She also excelled at printmaking. Annette Roberts landscape work was modernist and impressionist in style - her style could be described as leaning toward abstraction. Signed some of her work, "Annette".

ROBERTS, GORDON --- Mid 20th Century artist. Husband of Annette Roberts. Owners of an art gallery in the Redlands / Mentone area of the Inland Empire. Lived in Yucaipa. Many of his works were modernist and very experimental mid 20th Century approach. Some works focused on pointalism and abstractions.

ROBSON, CORA HEWES --- According to an address label verso, Cora Robson was active from 1324 Pine Street, Santa Monica California. Dated 1950. She was also known to have painted landscape and mission paintings in the 1940s while living in Riverside, California.

ROBYNS, ANNETTE (1914-1994) --- Fine mid-Century modernist abstract artist from Los Angeles. Annette Robyns studied in New York with Harry Shoulberg. Robyns also studied in Paris with Fernard Leger. In the 1940s she settled in Los Angeles with actor husband Donald Elson. Robyns was active in her studio Elson-Robyns Gallery in the early 1960s. Listed and Exhibited with: Laguna Beach Art Association Gallery - Laguna Beach, The Chabot Gallery in Los Angeles, The Brand Library and Art Center - Los Angeles, Westwood Art Association. Also known to have produced a few etchings. Most of her later works were modern colorist abstract oil paintings. A well rounded artist, Robyns was also known for being a working ceramist, sculptor, and silversmith.

RODRIGUES, JOSE --- Painted an impressionist coastal scene of crashing waves and rocks. Active in San Diego. Painted from his studio in Lakeside, California. Mid 20th painter.

ROME, RAY --- Raymond Rome painted a series of beach scene paintings during his travels. One titled, "The Sunday Clam Digger" and the other titled on the back "The Holiday". Appears to have been active in the Northern California area - mid 20th Century 1960s era.

ROWBURY, LAMAR --- A vintage mid 20th Century example of his work includes a coastal landscape. Known for his Western subject matter, Indian encampment, pastoral and landscape painting. Active with the Los Padres Artist Guild in Santa Maria, California. Works sold and offered at Best Of The West Auctions in Colorado Springs, CO. Member of important family of listed Western artists. Signed his works in full, "LaMar Rowbury".

RUSSELL, D.E. --- Painted an impressionist desert landscape of Joshua Trees on the high desert. Dated 1961. Signed work, "D.E. Russell".

SANTOS, ALFREDO (b1927) --- painted San Quentin prison murals 1950s. Signed his works "SANTOS". Mid Century modernist.

SAWYER, B.D. --- Painting known to exist is titled, "When The Snows Melt" - a painting of the high desert. Sawyer's brush work could be described as similar to Sam Hyde Harris in the tree tip lighting color.

SCHADE, LELA --- Active as an artist and teacher in Orange County and Riverside County. Listed: Desert Art Center Artists, ListedArtist.com Fine Art Reference - Rediscovered California Artists. An active member of the Desert Art Center - Palm Springs, California circa 1965. Painted scenes of Native Americans - portrait and group scenes, as well as desert paintings. Signed works, "Schade".

SCHMIDT, EUGENE (1919-2007) --- California realist painter from Santa Barbara. Active at the sidewalk art gallery sales along the beach at Santa Barbara for many years. Signed most of his work "E.S.". Known for painting the California mission, European landscape scenes (Germany and Switzerland), sunset coastal scenes, boats. Exhibited at the Santa Barbara Art Fair (1978). Recently passed away in 2007.

SCHNIER, ANNA (1895-1958) --- Plein air watercolorist. Signed her work, "Anna Schnier". Active in Los Angeles, California. According to Edan Hughes she was born in Ohio and grew up in Cincinnati. She moved to Los Angeles and painted watercolors until her death in 1958.

SCHONFELDT, FRANCES - Plein air California impressionist. Appears to have been active in the 1930s and 1940s. Her work includes plein air desert landscapes and California landscape scenes. Her work could be described as similar to that of Nevada Wilson.

SCHUMACHER, Marjorie --- Also known as Marj Schumacher or M. Schumacher. Painted Palm Springs area desert landscapes. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1965-1975).

SCHUMACHER, M.W. --- Resident of San Diego during the 1950s. Lived at 4537 Saratoga in that city. Painted in oil scenes of the California coast, as well as local deserts. This does not appear to be the same artist as either Marjorie Shumacher, who exhibited with the Palm Springs Desert Art Center and lived in that area in the 1960s (see above), or Mae Schumacher, a California artist from a much earlier period.

SHADDIX, BILL --- California and Arizona artist. Bill Shaddix is known for his nature based landscapes as well as Western and genre paintings. His early works include Southern California landscape and coastal paintings. Works shown in: Samuels and Southwest Art. Member of the Desert Art Center - Palm Springs, California (1965). Signed his works, "Bill Shaddix" and some early works "B.J. Shaddix".

SHARP, WALT --- Painted a colorist impressionist scene of the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1957.

SHAW, MARIE H. (1874- ) --- Painted a still life of coconuts. Originally from Minnesota and was born there in 1874 according to art historian Edan Hughes. She lived at one time in Texas and became a resident of Sonora, California in 1910. The coconut still life located appears to be from her California period when she was a resident of Sonora. Antique frame has an early Orr's San Diego, CA gallery label.

SHEBLAK, FLORENCE (1877-1946) --- According to art historian Edan Hughes, Sheblak was born in 1877 in Wisconsin. She was married to Charles Sheblak and lived in Chicago in the early part of her life. She later settled in California and around 1930 she was living in Los Angeles. Florence Sheblak died on Feb.21, 1946. The known work is signed in caps "F. Sheblak" and is a colorful impressionist landscape with trees.

SIPOS, RAYMOND -- Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1939. Sipos settled in California and studied with Benjamin McGrath. He originally worked as an engineer and mechanic at Cal Tech and became serious as an artist when exhibiting his work and getting a great deal of attention for his work. His paintings has been featured in national art publications such as Southwest Art. He ranked 30 out of 500 in a national competition for marine painting sponsored by the Franklin Mint. His main focus was on realist seascape and California coastal scenes. Active in the later part of the 20th Century.

SLOAN, W.A. --- Active as an artist in Ventura, California, and a resident there in the 1950s. Subject matter include the California landscape and Asian influenced still life.

SMITH Jr., CORNELIUS C. --- Illustrator and painter. Painted in oil and watercolor. Signature variations include, "Corney Smith", "C. Smith", "Smith". Cornelius Smith main output as an artist appeared to be in watercolor. According to some further research Smith came from a military background which seemed to influence many of his works..."his father Colonel Cornelius Cole Smith, an enlisted man in the Indian Wars, won a Medal of Honor, and commanded Fort Huachuca in 1918 and 1919. His son, Cornelius C. Smith, Jr., returned to Fort Huachuca in the 1970s to serve as the post's centennial coordinator." Many Corney's work include nostalgic views and drawings of men in battle, the Old West, animals, and military themes. Several of his early watercolor and drawings were of animals and more detailed in form and style. Around 1940 his work ventured into watercolor and his paintings became more brightly colored and impressionist. His work varied from a looser mid Century California style watercolor approach to the Western cowboy subject matter with more of an illustrative quality. Some of his book work includes: "A Hell of a Christmas" 219 By Colonel Cornelius C. Smith, Jr." and "Crook and Crazy Horse by CC Smith Jr - 1966 - written and illustrated by CORNELIUS C. SMITH, JR." A talented artist, many of his works recently appeared in the Inland Empire / Redlands area.

SMITH, R.P. --- Landscape painter. Realist painter of the Sierra mountain range. An oil by this artist was sold at a major auction house in California (2002).

SOUTHERN, DOROTHY --- Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center. Painted an impressionist desert landscape circa 1965. California plein air desert painter.

SPENCER, WILL --- Painted the deserts of California and also the Colorado landscape. Originally did a series of pencil works and after 1945 painted in oil and watercolor. Will Spencer was mainly focused on desert and mountain landscape. He was known to have painted the Palm Springs desert around 1950. Plein air painter - focused on watercolor scenes of the Palm Springs desert area. Exhibited: Yucaipa Library. Also known to have only painted a few hundred pieces. Signed his works "Will S. Spencer" or Will Spencer.

STAPINSKI, F.Z. --- Painted an impressionist desert scene of Cajon Pass (San Bernardino side). Active from 111 W. Pioneer Ave, Redlands, CA. Signed work F.Z. Stapinski.

STEVENSON, B. --- Painted a small plein air desert miniature of the Palm Springs - Palm Desert landscape.

SWANSEN, VERN --- Active in the Central Coast and settled in Santa Barbara. He was the curator of education at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (1961-71) and past president of the Santa Barbara Art Association. Also taught watercolor at Cal Poly. Architecture was his focus of study and was chosen as the most distinguished faculty member (1987 Cal Poly).

SYKES, ROZZELL --- In the mid 1960s Sykes was the co-founder of St. Elmo Village along with his nephew Roderick Sykes. The art village was located in the mid-city Los Angeles area and is now regarded as a multi-cultural landmark. Sykes vision in the late 60s was for St. Elmo Village to bring together African and Latin American culture through art and self expression. Rozzell Sykes work was modern - bright colors with strong black or brown backgrounds; often of close up views of people, faces, and nudes. His modernist paintings were featured in his gallery on the Sunset Strip (May 1968 full page ad with American Artist Magazine). Sykes could be considered one of the few first modernist African American California artists during this period. Sykes was also a muralist (noted for the mural at Adams at Arlington, Los Angeles). His work was also featured in an exhibit along with Betye Saar, Daniel LaRue Johnson, Charles Wilbert White, and Herman Kofi Bailey, Jr. at the California African American Museum (African American Artists in Los Angeles, a Survey Exhibition: Reaction (1945-1965)).

TRAMMELL, LOLA E. --- Plein air painter. Painted in Monterey California and appears to have been active as an artist there. (Monterey Past and Present is marked on the back of the panel as well). Located work was painted in 1948. Signed work "L.E. Trammell" - letters LE are comingled. Lola Trammell was active from her studio at 11 Via Paraiso, Monteregio, Monterey, Calif.

TERASAKI, RYO --- Realist desert painter. Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center. Resident of Downey, California. Signed her work "Ryo". Painted floral still life, seascape, and desert scenes.

TUBBS, S. --- Painted a desert impressionist painting in the mid 20th Century. According to label verso S. Tubbs was based in Banning, California. A talented painter.

VALENTE, CARL --- Born in Ohio and attended the Cleveland Art Institute. He eventually settled in Los Angeles and worked with the L.A. Herald Examiner. His work was seen by many in the form of color inserts with the Herald Examiner. In the late 1970s and 1980s Carl Valente concentrated on painting fine art - American landscape scenes and focused on archway painting and California mission scenes. He was also known to have painted English cottage and village scenes and floral still life. Some would say that his English school paintings resemble the paintings of Thomas Kinkade.

VENUTA, BENAY (1911-1995) --- Hollywood actress and Broadway star, Benay Venuta. Painted in her leisure. Signed her works, "Benay V." Known painting to exist is a portrait done in a loose impressionist style. American actress, singer, dancer.

VERDULT, WILLIAM --- Mid Century modernist. Work was shown in a Catalina Island Exhibit and at the Laguna Art Festival (1967). Studied with Danny Garcia and Stanley Brooks at the Carmel School of Art. He was also known to have taught art at the Carmel School of Art. He had a gallery studio in Carmel (1967). Known for his King Tut treasures exhibition which included a collection of paintings, gold, diamonds, and precious stones. He later settled in Palm Springs, California.

WAGNER, A.J. --- Early California impressionist artist - work could be described as similar to Joseph Englehart.

WALFORD, KENNETH --- Active in the mid 20th Century. Painted a large realist desert painting. The depth and realism in the work could be described as similar to the paintings of James Swinnerton.

WALKER, GEORGE M. --- Painted small floral impressionist paintings in the 1970s. Label on the back reads "Spanish Village Art Center - Balboa Park San Diego, California". Known to have painted with Alfred Mitchell.

WARD, SALLY --- Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center (1975). Lived in Cathedral City. Watercolorist and oil painter. Painted impressionist landscape and floral still life.

WHITE, DORIS (1924-) --- Born 1924 in Wisconsin. Painted modernist California watercolors. Mid 20th Century artist. Semi abstract landscape. Member of the California Watercolor Society. Also a member of the National Academy of Design and American Watercolor Society. Signed work, "Doris White".

WHITTED, IVANHOE - Painted an early California impressionist oil titled, "Mountain Splender" (sic). Signed in pencil on the back in full "IVANHOE WHITTED". A talented impressionist. One painting has come up for auction but no other works seem to have appeared.

WILLIAMS, G.E. --- Painted a plein air landscape of Palm Springs, California in 1943. Signed work "G.E. Williams".

WILLIAMS, JANE --- Circa 1945 California eucalyptus landscape in oil is known to exist.

WOLSETH, JAMES --- Wolseth, J.K.. Active in the mid 20th Century. Painted desert impressionist paintings. One titled, "Desert Verbenas In The Morning Light" with artist information "by J.K. Wolseth, Cathedral City 92234,. Calif. April 1967". Member of the Palm Springs Desert Art Center.

WOODWARD, WARREN --- Born in Australia, Warren Woodward became active in the United States after World War 2 when he moved to California. Woodward became a master printmaker and was known for his semi-abstract to cubist influenced works. He produced many embossed serigraphs and original oil paintings while in California. His work was sold through Van Amstel Company in Culver City. This label is often found on the back of his work. He also sold his work in Tucson, Arizona via Rosequist Galleries. He was known to have moved back to Australia but returned to California in 1960. It was during this period in which he produced some fine oil paintings with cubist and modern influences. A very talented painter, printmaker, and overlooked mid-Century artist.

YANCEY, HUGH H. --- Lived in West Los Angeles according to artist stamp on the back of the painting. Painted landscape and Oregon scenes -works could be described as similar to those of John Coultrup and what some describe as "speed" painters.
