Kevin Macpherson (b1956) (New Mexico / California)

Popular in Laguna Beach, California. Past president of the Plein Air Painters of America. Known as a plein air instructor and also published book, "Fill Your Oil Paintings with Light and Color". Won Master Signature Member Award at the National Oil Painters of America competition for his many prize winning paintings.  Gerard Martin (Salinas, California)

Plein air painter - works shown in Carmel. In 2008, Gerard Martin won a 2008 Award at the Carmel Art Festival (Honorable Mention Award). Studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His colorist plein air works include ranch scenes with horses, ranch life, field workers, cattle, and barn scene landscapes. His landscape plein air scenes also show an emphasis toward the farm and rural California life. A fine artist, excellent use of color.

Sean McMills (Carlsbad, California)

Plein air painter. Many of his works are landscapes of Carlsbad, California and the surrounding coastal area. A talented artist that captures light in a modern colorist impressionist style. McMills work is becoming more popular via the internet and in California. Known works include floral still lifes, coastals, sunsets, landscapes and mountains, night scenes. One to watch.

Darrel McPherson (Escondido, California)

Plein air painter active in San Diego. Member of the San Diego Visual Artist Guild. Member of the ASBA (American Society of Botanical Artists). His impressionist painting includes landscape, lush tree studies, and botanical paintings.

Joseph Mendez (b1933) (Culver City, California)

In 2001, Mendez was a signature member and participant with the PAPA (Plein Air Painters of America). In 1995 won several awards for his art including an award of excellence by the Salmagundi Art Club. Signature member of the National Oil Painters of America. National attention to his work in magazine such as Southwest Art and Art of the West.

Barry Michlin (Hollywood, California) (Photographer)

Hollywood based Photographer. Exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1991 to present) and was given the Emerging Artist Award - One of 10 Emerging Artists "Retrospective and Prospective Exhibit - Celebrating 25th Anniversary of LACMA". Late 20th Century to present fine art photographer - whose emotional work captures the spirit of the moment and elements of spontaneity. A standout photograph was taken during the L.A. riots in 1992, a moment of intensity which is titled, "UFO Attacks Hollywood". Collectors and client list include notables such Julia Child, Aaron Spelling Productions, and Wolfgang Puck. A talented photographer and one to watch.

John Modesitt (b1955)

Solana Beach, California artist. Recent high auction record at the Charles Russell Benefit Auction but the work "Awakening of Spring" may be considered his top selling work to date. Considered a contemporary plein air painter. His California paintings have elements and influences of the poppy and lupin landscapes of John Gamble. Originally born in New Mexico and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago - and later became active near San Diego, California. His subject matter includes: Southwest scenes, mountain landscapes, floral landscapes, and seascapes. Works sold at Journeys West Gallery in Solana Beach. Works have been published in "Painting Of CA 2004" and recently featured in a July 2008 issue of Collector! Magazine. Emerging California artist. Growing auction record.

Erich Neubert (b1972) - San Diego,CA

Frances Nichols (Santa Monica, California)

California impressionist painter. Taught art at University High School in West Los Angeles for many years. Worked with Mario Mirkovich and Lynne Goodin. Studied figural art and landscape painting with Eliot Elgart and David Glines at UCLA. Also studied watercolor with Tony Couch, Tom Lynch, and Tom Fong. Her work includes colorful California impressionist landscapes, the high desert around Ridgecrest, the California coast, and nature scenes. Paints in oil, watercolor, and pastel. Member of the Southern California Pastel Society, National Watercolor Society (Associate Member). Nichols work was recently featured at Emeritus College Gallery "Slight of Hand" in July 2010. Her pastel work was also shown with the Southern California Pastel Society at Colortec (Torrance, California).

Oak Group - Santa Barbara (Painters Group) (California)

Collectible works by artist group focused on painting the backcountry landscape between Carmel Valley and Los Angeles County. Founded by Ray Strong in 1985. Members include: Meredith Abbott, Whitney Abbott, Donald Archer, Joseph Areno, Marcia Burtt, Chris Chapman, Patricia Chidlaw, John Comer, Bill Dewey, Michael Drury, Erika Edwards, Mike Enriquez, Karen Foster, Karen Gruszka, Glenna Hartmann, John Iwerks, Larry Iwerks, Manny Lopez, Hank Pitcher, William Roberts, Rick Schloss, Skip Smith, Ray Strong, Arturo Tello, Thomas Van Stein, and Sarah Vedder. The goal of this group of artist is to preserve and document the current California landscape in plein air. Yearly exhibitions are held.

Chuck Oberstein (1935-2002) (California)

Known for his collectible clown paintings and realist portrait work. Chuck Oberstein was known to also have painted Mexican guitar players, abstract scenes of ballet dancers, and rural California landscapes - including rustic barns. Many of his clown subjects can be found in the form of prints. Oberstein's work can be compared to that of William Persona - another collectible clown painter from Southern California in the mid to late 20th Century. Some of Chuck Oberstein's work could also be described as modernist or bordering on abstract.

James Osorio (b1952) (Alhambra, California)

Plein air painter who studied with Mario Rueda and Karl Dempwolf (b1939). His work has elements of modernism  - Eucalyptus trees done in a slightly fauvist sun-drenched colorist style. Osorio was awarded a one-man show from the Orange County Center For Contemporary Art. His work has been exhibited at the Newport Art Museum. James Osorio and Dudley Slay are considered plein air painting partners. Signs his work "Osorio". One to watch...
